UNDER PRESSURE WITH MIKE PENNEKAMP

Join Chicago-based printmaker, Mike Pennekamp as he demonstrates the tips and tricks he uses to make his own graphic woodcuts and linocuts. Mike earned his undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and cut his teeth printing the intricate woodcuts of Tom Huck in St. Louis, MO for years post-graduation. He has used what he learned to develop his own art practice and printing methods which he will demonstrate in an accessible and approachable print demo open to all skill levels and levels of interest... but you know you're interested- very interested!

This workshop is in collaboration with the Chicago Printers Guild at Print Jam 2023.

Johnny Sampson, MAD Magazine’s “Last Idiot Standing”, walks and talks you through the many steps of creating a MAD Fold-In. He has been the sole writer and artist of the venerable feature since Al Jaffee’s retirement in 2020. From concept to publication (yes, MAD is still in print), witness him recount the ridiculously time-consuming process of producing a Fold-In while sharing anecdotes about working for the celebrated magazine.

The group has since grown to over 1K members forming a community.

Nia F. G. Easley “The Last Green Book”

Artist and designer Nia Easley will be presenting her recently published artist’s book, The Last Green Book. Completed at the end of 2022 - this book looks at the sites listed in the 1962 edition of the famed African American travel guide. This project was supported by Ideas Beyond Formats, an initiative by Sonnenzimmer, and supported by many others.

CPG will be tabling at Instituto Grafico de Chicago’s 10th annual printmaking festival
¡GRABADOLANDIA! at the National Museum of Mexican Art.

Date / Time: Sunday November 20th, 12 - 5 pm
Location: National Museum of Mexican Art 1852 W. 19th Street Chicago IL 60608
Cost: Free Admission to ALL. Educating the public about printmaking is the focus of this fair, so participants are asked to present unique forms of print processes, hands-on activities, or demos.

The goal is for attendees to experience printmaking during the festival. If you’re interested in working with the public please conduct demos on Sunday the 20th and reach out via email.
